History of Formation and Development

 

INTRODUCTION TO THE FACULTY OF GARMENT TECHNOLOGY AND FASHION

 

The predecessor of the Faculty of Garment Technology and Fashion was the Department of Garment Technology, established in 2004 under the Faculty of Food Technology. In August 2006, the Department of Garment Technology and Footwear Technology was separated from the Faculty of Food Technology and merged to form the Faculty of Garment Technology – Fashion Design and Footwear in accordance with Decision No. 304/QĐ-TCNTP dated August 22, 2006, issued by the Rector of Ho Chi Minh City College of Food Industry, and Decision No. 369/QĐ-TCNTP dated May 15, 2010, issued by the Rector of Ho Chi Minh City University of Food Industry.

On December 29, 2017, the Faculty of Garment Technology – Fashion Design and Footwear was officially renamed the Faculty of Garment Technology and Fashion under Decision No. 3733/QĐ-DCT issued by the Rector.

At its inception, the Faculty was assigned the mission of training bachelors and engineers in Garment Technology and Footwear Technology at college, vocational college, and professional secondary levels. In 2016, the Faculty enrolled its first undergraduate cohort in Garment Technology. In 2021, the Faculty was further entrusted by the University with the development and implementation of the Fashion Business and Textile & Garment program.

Over more than 20 years of establishment and development, the Faculty has gradually affirmed its role and position in society. The academic staff has continuously been strengthened and expanded in both quantity and quality. At present, 100% of the Faculty’s lecturers hold a master’s degree or higher, including three PhDs. The teaching staff are dedicated, responsible, and experienced in practice, while continually striving to enhance their professional expertise and pedagogical capacity. In addition, the Faculty has established effective cooperation and support in training and research with universities and enterprises.

Currently, the Faculty of Garment Technology and Fashion offers two undergraduate programs:

-         Textile and Garment Technology

-         Fashion Business and Textile & Garment

With the continuous efforts of its lecturers, staff, and students, along with the timely guidance and support of the University’s Board of Management, the Faculty has achieved numerous notable accomplishments, including:

- Certificate of Merit from the Prime Minister

- Certificate of Merit from the Ministry of Industry and Trade

- Emulation Fighter Title at the Ministerial Level (Ministry of Industry and Trade)

- Certificates of Merit from the Trade Union and the Ho Chi Minh City Federation of Labor

- And many other awards for both collectives and individuals
